Bridal Cake 

1 1/2 cups butter or margarine, softened
3 cups sugar
4 1/2 cups flour, sifted
3/4 tsp. soda
3/4 cup milk 
12 egg whites
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cream of tartar 

Cream butter, gradually add sugar, beating well. Combine flour and soda; sift 3 times. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix well after each addition. (Mixture will be stiff). Stir in flavorings. Beat room temperature egg whites until frothy; add cream of tartar and beat until stiff peaks form. Fold into creamed mixture. Pour into greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 325 F. For 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until cake tests done. Cool in pan 10 to 15 minutes; remove from pan and let cool completely. Frost with ornamental icing.
