Brown Sugar Fudge Cake

2 1/4 cups unsifted cake flour
1 tsp. soda
3/4 tsp. salt
21/2 cup softened shortening
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs, unbeaten
2 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2 cups brown sugar, packed

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Sift together the cake flour, salt and soda. Melt chocolate, and add to sugar mixture. Add eggs, blending well. Alternate dry ingredients and buttermilk, blending well. Add vanilla. Bake at 350 F for 30 to 35 minutes.
