Busy Day Syrup Cake 

1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups cane syrup
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup cocoa
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla 

Cream shortening; gradually add syrup, beating until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Combine dry ingredients, adding to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans.bake at 350 F. For 25 to 30 minutes, or until cake tests done. Frost with chocolate frosting.
