Chocolate Fondant Cake 

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
4 eggs
3 oz. baking chocolate, melted
1 cup mashed potatoes
2 cups flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 scant tsp. almond extract
1 cup chopped dates 

Cream butter and sugars, until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add chocolate, extract and mashed potato.  Add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream. Fold in nuts and dates. Makes 3 layers. Bake 30 to 40 minutes at 350 F.
