Devils Food Cake

2/3 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 1/4 cups cake flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1/2 oz. unsweetened chocolate

Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Beat in 3 eggs, blending well. Blend in melted chocolate. Sift together the flour,soda and salt, add alternately with buttermilk.  Pour into greased/floured pans. Bake at 350 F 30 to 35 Minutes for 9" layers and 40 to 45 minutes for a 9x13 pan.
