Sweet Potato Cake 

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 cup cooked, mashed sweet potatoes
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Cream butter, gradually adding sugar, and beating well. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Add sweet potatoes, blend well. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.  Spoon into greased 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350 F. For 40 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool. Spread with brown sugar caramel icing. Cut into squares to serve.
